Method for Adhering Fiberglass Mesh Cloth

Fiberglass mesh is commonly used in exterior wall insulation systems; because it prevents "thermal bridges" (or "cold bridges") and offers excellent energy-saving insulation performance, it is highly favored in the construction industry. In winter, the mesh insulation material blocks the outward flow of indoor heat, thereby retaining it; conversely, when the indoor temperature drops, the heat stored within the wall is released to help regulate the temperature. Below is a detailed explanation of the installation method for fiberglass mesh.


Fiberglass mesh used for building insulation is based on a woven fiberglass fabric that has been impregnated and coated with a polymer emulsion. This process imparts excellent alkali resistance, flexibility, and high tensile strength in both the warp and weft directions, making the material widely applicable for insulation, waterproofing, and crack prevention in both interior and exterior walls. The product primarily consists of alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh woven using a special leno weave structure from medium-alkali-free fiberglass yarn (composed mainly of silicates with high chemical stability); it undergoes high-temperature heat-setting treatment with alkali-resistant agents and reinforcing compounds. Fiberglass mesh fabric is widely used as a wall reinforcement material (e.g., fiberglass wall mesh, GRC wall panels, EPS internal and external wall insulation boards, gypsum board, waterproof membrane fabric, asphalt roofing waterproofing, fireproof boards, construction joint tape, etc.).



1. A designated person must be responsible for preparing the polymer mortar to ensure mixing quality.




2. Open the bucket lid by turning it counter-clockwise and re-mix the adhesive using a mixer or other tool to prevent separation; ensure proper mixing to avoid quality issues.




3. The mix ratio for the polymer mortar is: KL adhesive : 425# sulfoaluminate cement : sand (sieved through an 18-mesh screen) = 1 : 1.88 : 3.25 (by weight).




4. Measure the cement and sand using a bucket and pour them into a metal mortar trough to mix; once blended evenly, add the adhesive according to the mix ratio and mix again. The mixture must be thoroughly blended to a porridge-like consistency, avoiding segregation. Water may be added as needed to adjust workability.




5. Water used should be concrete-grade water. ...using water.




6. Polymer mortar should be mixed as needed; the prepared mixture is best used within one hour. Store the polymer mortar in a cool, shaded place, avoiding direct sunlight.




7. Cut mesh sheets from the roll of fiberglass mesh according to the required length and width, allowing for necessary overlap.




8. Cut the material on a clean, flat surface with precise measurements. Once cut, the mesh must be rolled up; folding or stepping on the mesh is prohibited.




9. Install a reinforcement layer at the building's external corners; this layer should be applied to the innermost position, extending 150 mm on each side.




10. When applying the first coat of polymer mortar, ensure the EPS board surface is dry and free of harmful substances or impurities.




11. Apply a layer of polymer mortar to the surface of the polystyrene board. The application area should be slightly larger than the dimensions of the mesh, with a uniform thickness of approximately 2 mm. Unless edge wrapping is specified, do not apply polymer mortar to the sides of the polystyrene board.




12. After applying the polymer... After applying the polymer mortar, place the mesh fabric over it with the curved side facing the wall; smooth it out from the center toward the edges to embed the mesh into the mortar, ensuring there are no wrinkles. Once the surface is dry, apply another layer of polymer mortar with a thickness of 1.0 mm, ensuring the mesh fabric is completely covered.




13. The overlap length at the edges of the mesh fabric must be at least 70 mm. Where the mesh has been cut, a patch must be applied with an overlap of at least 70 mm.




14. Reinforcement layers must be installed around door and window reveals; the reinforcement mesh should be applied to the innermost position. If the distance between the outer edge of the door or window frame and the surface of the base wall exceeds 50 mm, the mesh should be adhered directly to the base wall. If the distance is less than 50 mm, the mesh must be wrapped around the edge (folded back). The mesh covering the main wall surface should be embedded and securely bonded to the outer side of the door or window frame.




15. At the four corners of door and window openings, after the standard mesh has been applied, an additional piece of standard mesh (200 mm × 300 mm) must be placed over each corner for reinforcement; this piece should be positioned at a 90-degree angle to the corner bisector and applied as the outermost layer. At internal corners, an additional piece measuring 200... ...mm in length and of a width matching the standard window reveal, applied to the outermost layer.




16. Below the windowsill on the ground floor, to prevent impact damage, install the reinforced mesh first, followed by the standard mesh. Reinforced mesh sections should be butt-jointed.




17. The installation method for the reinforced layer is the same as that for the standard mesh.




18. The mesh applied to the wall surface should overlap the "wrap-around" (folded-back) mesh.




19. Mesh application proceeds from top to bottom; the reinforced mesh is applied first, followed immediately by the standard mesh.




20. After application, the mesh must be protected against rain washout and impact. Protective measures must be taken for vulnerable external corners, doors, and windows, as well as material loading points to prevent contamination; any surface damage or contamination must be addressed immediately.




21. The protective layer must not be exposed to rain within 4 hours of application.




22. Once the protective layer has reached final set, water-spray curing must be performed promptly. The curing duration shall be no less than 48 hours when the average daily temperature is above 15°C, and no less than 72 hours when it is below 15°C.
